Where’s yours?
Home > News, Pastor's Blog > Where’s yours? As an American it is very easy to get comfortable with the whole “American Dream”. We’ve been a very comfortable and secure country for a long time, and that has caused us to get used to being like that. What is dangerous about that is the fact that when things change and make us even a little uncomfortable we lose our cool and become all worried…which shows that we’ve placed our trust in our comfort and money and the whole “American Dream”.
As Christians we are supposed to live as though this world is not our home, we are simply passing through on our way to heaven. Yet as Christians living in America we have all too often taken on the ways of America and forgotten the ways of Jesus. We have gotten used to the life of comfort and security, the life that is the “American Dream”. And in doing so we have made this world our home, we have placed our trust in our comfort and money and the whole “American Dream”.
As followers of Christ we are supposed to do just that, follow Christ. Christ was never an American, never preached being comfortable and secure and having everything we want. He preached unconditionally loving everyone, praying for your enemies, blessing those who persecute you, taking care of the poor and needy, telling those around us of his great love for us, to be holy just like he was, and to trust in God alone.
What is most interesting…and frustrating, is that 99% of Christians would read this and agree with every word…but they would continue to live with their trust in their comfort and money and the whole “American Dream”. Knowledge does not mean we obey, it just means we know. Obedience is an action that we have to intentionally do.
So the question isn’t do you know that you are supposed to trust in God, the question is will you trust in God. Who is currently in government and what the economy is like should never affect our trust…unless we place our trust in those things and not in God. Things of this world will always change and when we trust in it will cause us to worry. On the contrary, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8) and when we trust in Him completely we won’t have a need to worry because he is with us always (Matthew 28:20, Hebrews 13:5).
